In June 2012, he was arrested on charges of speeding to elude arrest. Hughes was convicted of fleeing and possession of a firearm by a felon in October 2012 and served 11 months in prison, according to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction. Reign said she and her girlfriend stayed well back from the house where the shooting happened, watching and hoping none of their other neighbors had gotten hurt by a stray bullet. Saing Chhoeun, 54, was just leaving his house shortly after 1 p.m. Marshals task force raced into his yard, taking cover behind a powder-blue Honda sedan. Assault weapons – what she calls "weapons of war" – like the high-powered rifle used by the suspect in the hourslong standoff Monday, "do not belong on our streets," the congresswoman said.

"I have to say I make no apologies for my tears," Lyles said during Tuesday's vigil. "What makes me whole is to be a genuine leader in this community, who’s not afraid to show vulnerability when it’s necessary and needed." Officials believe two people fired at law enforcement, Jennings said.

In May 2021, he was arrested on several charges, including possession of marijuana paraphernalia, manufacturing marijuana and eluding arrest in a motor vehicle, according to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office website. Hughes served time in prison following multiple felony convictions, including for breaking and entering, fleeing from the police and possession of a firearm, state records show. Chhoeun said he watched as one officer and then another was hit by gunfire from the rear of the brick home, and heard the frantic calls for assistance. He said two women ran outside the house, as did another man, and authorities crashed an armored vehicle through his backyard to reach the two downed officers.

On Wednesday, CMPD released surveillance photos of a black Mercedes-Benz C250 that is believed to be connected to Willard's killing. The vehicle has North Carolina license plate TJV-4843. "I am deeply saddened by the shooting that occurred," Vi Lyles, Charlotte's mayor, said on X. "I ask that all Charlotteans keep them, and the other injured officers, and their families in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time." Hughes was arrested by CMPD on multiple drug charges in May 2021. He was also charged with fleeing or eluding arrest with a motor vehicle.

Four other officers were wounded in the shootout, and Hughes was also killed. In February, two police officers and a paramedic were killed near Minneapolis after a man, who was barricaded in his home, opened fire on the police. Officers returned fire, and the gunman was later reported dead. The authorities shut down the city’s Shannon Park neighborhood, east of downtown, on Monday afternoon after gunfire erupted in order to more easily move victims to hospitals, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department wrote on social media. “He fought for several hours and passed away from his injuries with his wife and family by his side tonight,” Chief Jennings said in a statement posted to social media on Monday evening.

The suspect who fired at officers was fatally shot on the lawn of the house, while two other people inside the home were later taken in for questioning. Terry Clark Hughes Jr., 39, was killed in an exchange of gunfire Monday after he allegedly fired a high-powered rifle at a U.S. marshals task force that included local law enforcement officers, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police. Marshals Service, said six deputies have been fatally shot in the line of duty since 2011, not including those killed Monday. (AP) — Four law officers serving a warrant for a felon wanted for possessing a firearm were killed and four other officers were wounded in a shootout Monday at a North Carolina home, police said.

Condolences for the officers involved in one of the deadliest recent attacks on law enforcement poured out from small communities to the White House. When Lyles got in a car to go home around midnight the day of the shooting, she said she was "shocked" that President Joe Biden called her. The city's police chief announced Monday night that a Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer who had been wounded, Joshua Eyer, had also died. The task force is made up of officers from multiple agencies. A manned Concord Police Department cruiser idled outside a two story home early Tuesday afternoon at an address in Monroe listed for Eyer. Concord Officer Thiago DeSouza, stationed outside the gray-paneled house, walked past three cars sitting in the driveway to knock on the grieving family’s door. – Local officials and community members came together Tuesday night to honor the four law enforcement officers who were killed when gunfire erupted at a house in North Carolina, where authorities were trying to serve a warrant. Charlotte Mayor Vi Lyles, who spoke at Monday's news conference, said the community must honor the deputy marshals who lost their lives and the wounded officers.

Demeatrius Antonio Montgomery is serving a life sentence in the killings of officers Jeffrey Shelton and Sean Clark. The Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force is headquartered in Charlotte and comprised of 70 federal, state and local agencies. Fugitive task forces are collaborations between agencies to find and arrest suspects in crimes. WSOC-TV said their helicopter captured an armored vehicle driving through yards and knocking over recycling bins before officers removed a person with blood on their shirt who was then loaded into an ambulance.

Fees are charged for group climbing, certain event permits, and facility reservations. We absolutely love exploring Hendersonville and think it’s another wonderful base for visiting Chimney Rock State Park. You’ll enjoy all the fun things to do in and around this small town. After a long day of exploring the park, you’ll likely be looking for a place to eat. There are picnic areas scattered throughout the park, including a few tables near the Four Seasons Trailhead, the Animal Discovery Den, and the Hickory Nut Falls Trail. Find more information about two-hour, half-day, or full-day rock climbing sessions here.

Not only do you gain a sense of achievement, but the panoramic views from the observation deck are just magnificent. This trail has a natural surface, including stone steps. Visitors can download activity brochures, track all of their adventures online, and get prizes on the Kids in Parks website. Please follow safety rules and encourage others to do the same when you are near waterfall areas. Cameron grew up in Charlotte and spent his childhood traveling around this great region.

Its most notable feature is a 315-foot (96 m) granite monolith named Chimney Rock, which is accessible by elevator and provides views of the park and surrounding countryside. Visitors can catch their breath at Devil’s Head and the Opera Box on a hike to Exclamation Point, where panoramic views of the 14-mile Hickory Nut Gorge are sure to delight. It is a bit on the pricey side to get into the park but the views are really good. The road going up is pretty narrow so beware when you drive in and out of the park. There is an elevator to go almost all the way up to the main Chimney Rock portion.

There are several access points along Highway 74, but be sure to have the proper permits first. Autumn, in particular, provides an opportunity to see the mass migration of hawks, falcons, eagles, and vultures. It’s earned a spot on the official NC Birding Trail and offers many guided walks, workshops, and programs throughout the year. The fastest bird in the world, the Peregrine Falcon, can often be spotted soaring rapidly about the gorge. Chimney Rock State Park is one of the best spots for avian enthusiasts to spot some special flying friends.

The best way for those looking for little to no walking is to take the elevator to the top. Also, Chimney Rock State Park is one of the few North Carolina state park sites to charge admission. Admission fees go towards maintaining the park and allowing it to operate as a major tourist destination. Take Highway 25 North (White Horse Road) into North Carolina. Follow Highway 19 toward Interstate 40 East and Asheville.

They combine to create a mountain adventure experience that is postcard perfect. Though Chimney Rock is the crown jewel of the park, it slightly overcasts the other hidden gems that this park has to offer. There are several hiking trails and woodlands to explore, so don’t skip these other trails if you have more than half a day to explore the park.

They also have a peacock habitat and goat exhibit to offer more than just rock experiences. From gifts for relatives to keepsakes, this is perfect for visitors who want to wear their experience. The North Carolina State Parks also host a 100-mile challenge throughout their state parks. The mountains here provide an opportunity to see rocks up close and personal by scaling their cliffs and mountainsides. Friends of State Parks is a nonprofit citizen organization supporting, promoting, and advocating for the North Carolina State Parks system as a whole. The group helps provide funding for Junior Ranger and Youth in Parks – Environmental Education programs, as well as grants for state parks projects.

Located near the elevator, the gift shop sells local pieces as well as apparel, magnets, and more. Chimney Rock’s Animal Discovery Den is home to several animals who serve as ambassadors to educate about the park’s wildlife. In the Den, you’ll meet Mufasa the Eastern King Snake, Petunia the Snapping Turtle, and Ossie the Opossum, among many others. I personally like the hike up because you get a lot of different perspectives of Chimney Rock and the rest of the park. Plus, you pass through the Subway (a small tunnel) and other scenic walkways. To reach the top of Chimney Rock, you’ll have to drive up to the base of the monument.

As the name suggests, every seasonal hike here has a special highlight to offer. It’s also a great spot for trying to spot some local wildlife. This is the perfect pick for those interested in a venture into the more remote rugged terrain in Chimney Rock State Park.

Killing of 4 officers underscores risks police face when serving warrants

charlotte to california

Do police have to go through a fence? Is it an apartment complex with a lot of people around? Maybe it’s safer to arrest the suspect away from home. Among the things officers will want to know is the criminal histories of the people being arrested.

Non-stop flights to California from Charlotte

I paid extra to have more legroom and it is definitely worth it for a six hour flight. I would’ve paid for a decent dinner, but they didn’t offer anything but a snack box —not good for six hours. Honestly, I didn’t expect that I will experience this long time wait during the check in. There was only one person who was taking care of the passengers for the economy class and it took us to wait about one hour to do our check i. As a result we barely get to the airplane as the gate was at the end of the airport. That is totally not professional where one crue is working at the registration desk with economy and 3-4 crues are helping for the business class.

Search hundreds of travel sites at once for deals on flights to California

The process of buying the ticket and navigating all the hidden charges that Frontier throws at you was a terrible experience. The actual airport experience and flying was fine. Uncomfortable seats with no recline. Very professional, knowledgeable flight attendants. Left 2 hours later for delayed I had to take care a kid with special need since people don’t want to move to accommodate the rest of the family. It wasn’t bad but that made me upset that people can be that selfish.

Generally good but there wasn’t any staff available when my luggage didn’t appear at baggage claim in Fresno. It took about half an hour to locate a staff member to open up the locked room where it was being kept. I was charged $99 for a carryon on the 4th out of 4 flights only. It was placed under the seat just like the other times.

We were directed to go to a gate across from our gate. The plane wasn't there yet so we had to wait for it to arrive, then deplane everyone and then wait again for the plane to be cleaned. After 45 minuites we were allowed on the plane. The first plane had mechanical issues. The 2nd plane must have had bathroom issues because we did not have any food service whatsoever.

Seatback entertainment system did not work even when the flight attendant rebooted it. At least I had my cell phone to connect with wifi. Then there’s the suspect’s location.

In 2021 and 2020, two officers died each year while serving an arrest warrant, FBI data shows. Five officers died in 2019 while serving search or arrest warrants. Three officers were killed while serving warrants in 2022, according to the FBI’s Center for the Study of Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted. Actual CLT experience was rough.

The check in process was laborious and the check in agent didn't seem to know how to manage the process efficiently and was confused about how to check in my son's sports equipment. The baggage fees were outrageous and so expensive. And $200 additional for 2 check ins.

The guy with severe body odor sat next to me. For the whole duration of the flight it was a torture. The airline should have better policy on limiting people with bad body odor to board the flight. Passengers should not be the ones to endure bad odor for the whole duration of the flight. The airline should be e the one to ensure decent air quality for ever passenger. Temperature in the plane was quite warm for the entire flight - actually just outright hot making for an unoleay4 hours.

The pilot claimed an internal issue then an external equipment issue that needed to be adddressed. Flight was fine, it was delayed but only 30 minutes, staff were efficient, lady making announcements at LAX was really hard to understand but the rest were great. Lost baggage on my connecting flight. 24 hours later, still no update on my bags.

We had to wait again for the okay to the pilot to take off so we were on the runway for another 20 min. Overall, we were delayed over 2 hours which felt like 4 hours. First the good, everyone was friendly and efficient. Flight was smooth and plane was very clean and new. Now the bad, seats have almost no padding on your behind.

Blows my mind they charge for water of all things. I’ll be avoiding spirit like the plague from here forward. Generally good but we were delayed almost two hours from the original time of purchase.

Paola Nuñez will play Esme Carmona, an NFFA surveillance expert whose life is dedicated to ensuring no one breaks the rules of Purge night. She thinks that the NFFA works and she works for surveillance,” Nuñez said as she shared her thoughts about her character with The Work Print. “The reason that Esme started working for the NFFA was that she had a really traumatic experience with her family. She feels betrayed by the system and that’s when everything changes for her.” Before landing her starring role in The Purge, Nuñez was most recently seen alongside Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in the feature film Bad Boys For Life.

Career

Schmidt and Seattle Repertory Theatre have reminded us why we love Shakespeare and why we must keep searching for the truths of today within the texts. We are reminded how good men, or in this case good girls, are capable of appalling things. When passion is high and goes unchecked, when a trusted friend or love whispers not caution but rather incites, even heroes can fall. I would go back to see this show again "tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow."

Ben, a clean-cut student whose life changes dramatically when he goes out on Purge night for the first time, is played by Joel Allen. Catching up with The Work Print at Comic-Con, the young actor gave us a little insight into his character, and what we can expect of him in the upcoming season. “Ben is really an average dude with really average grades,” he explained. “You really feel like, “Well, what would I do if I was in that situation on my first Purge.” Prior to The Purge, Allen was best known for his performance in the Sundance comedy Never Goin’ Back (2018), and can next be seen in Rollers and What Breaks the Ice. The unlikeliest of casts is also unanimously remarkable. The commitment, sure-footedness, and dedication to the story are evident in each member of the cast.

I will refrain from providing any details as this fresh adaptation deserves to be seen with fresh eyes. Hats off to the entire production staff for embracing the story in all its gore. The show comes with a well-earned graphic violence warning and is suggested for age sixteen and up. I would allow my fourteen year-old daughter to see it if only for the knowledge of the show's power to make Shakespeare relevant and spur my young thespian past her fear of iambic pentameter. Schweiger Dermatology Group was founded to help make excellent dermatology care accessible throughout the Northeast. In 2010, Dr. Eric Schweiger started the practice with a single location in Midtown Manhattan.

Izabel Mar as Lady Macbeth was perhaps my favorite, if a favorite is possible from this cast. The 400-year old lines dripped from her lips as if they truly were her very own thoughts. Charlotte Schweiger was the lucky but deserving recipient of the part of Macbeth. While it is her ambition that drives the whole story, she is often unwilling to accept responsibility for the results of her unchecked ambition. It is Schweiger who ultimately makes us believe that the tale of Macbeth is still present among us, in the often unexplored depths of depravity. Here she leads the rest, rather of her own volition or pressured from the pack, it matters not.

charlotte schweiger

When he saw the need for high-quality dermatology care that did not require weeks or months of waiting to see a qualified provider, his vision of a multi-location practice was born. Due to a prophecy from three witches, Macbeth believes he is destined to be king, so much so that he is willing to remove the obstacle in his path, the current king. The three witches played by Sophie Kelly-Hedrick, Laakan McHardy, and Analiese Mereson Guettinger are harbingers of good things to come in the theater world. They displayed precise comedic timing, fierce energy, and decadent mischievousness. Tamsen Glaser as Banquo was freakishly awesome, especially in ghost form. Klarissa Maria Robles as Macduff was understated and subtle, but brilliant in her own way as the only character left with any moral authority.

The tales linking masculinity with violence have become to ubiquitous, and we have become numb. This new retelling of Macbeth, adapted by the stupendous (there really is no other word) Erica Schmidt brings us back to the truth of the horrific nature of Macbeth's actions. The staging and stunts throughout the show elicit a sinister uneasiness. The set is used in so many innovative ways that I found myself trying to guess how some objects might be used.

Alaskan Cruise Packing Checklist: 80+ Things To Bring Printable

what to bring on alaska cruise

We’d suddenly swapped sandy beaches and warm ocean water for glaciers and towering forests, pelicans for petrels, and grouper for King crab. Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with a cruise packing list of over 50 essential items to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable trip. Outside of your main clothes and footwear, don’t forget to pack accessories for an Alaska cruise. From hats to wool socks, scarves, gloves, sunscreen, and sunglasses, there are many accessories that you’ll want to bring with you to Alaska. Due to strong winds and ease of use in crowded areas, we don’t recommend packing an umbrella. Therefore, it’s important to pack a waterproof jacket with a hood.

Fifteen miles south of Ketchikan is Metlakatla, the only Native American reservation in Alaska. It's located on Annette Island, 86,000 acres of dense rainforest and tranquil salmon streams that can be accessed via a 45-minute ferry ride from Ketchikan. A side trip to Metlakatla provides a historical perspective of Alaska's complex past.

What To Wear Hiking

A waterproof lined jacket or puffer coat can be worn on top as well. A waterproof phone case dry bag is an Alaska cruise essential. You’ll be able to take photos and use your touch screen, while your phone stays clean and dry. Bringing your own pair of compact travel binoculars is an Alaska cruise must-have!

Walking Shoes

Your Alaska cruise offers many opportunities to try things you might never have the chance to do again. You could walk on glaciers, snorkel in a dry suit in the frigid Alaska waters or play with sled dog puppies. We already mentioned salmon fishing, which is surprisingly fun, even if you'd never go fishing at home. The best souvenir advice I've received is to buy a cozy throw or blanket at your first port stop.

What to Pack for Your Alaska Cruise: The Ultimate Packing List

Poor packing could lead to uncomfortable consequences, from shivering in the rain to missing out on experiences and excursions. A lightweight waterproof backpack is a must for excursions and day trips in Alaska, but also makes a handy embarkation day carry on bag for your first cruise day. Due to the potential for heavy rain in any of the Alaska cruise ports, make sure your backpack is waterproof and not water-resistant.

I've used these for years, with only one failure on a rather small ship. The photos you'll enjoy most when you look back next year are the ones of your travel partners enjoying the trip. Take those, then spend your time soaking up the enchantment of this place. The news, the email correspondence and your Instagram followers can take a back seat until you're back home. You can solve that problem with a pair of lightweight binoculars. They're also useful for getting a close-up view of glaciers or spotting eagles in port.

Try a midseason sailing that visits Glacier Bay National Park. Early and late-season cruises might be unable to access the glaciers on their itineraries due to ice floes. This is an easy mistake to make on your first Alaska cruise.

Spend some time learning about what you should pack for an Alaska cruise so you're prepared for the changeable weather and terrain of the 49th State. July enjoys the warmest average temperatures of the summer (they can go from low 50s to high 60 degrees), which is why it’s one of the best times to cruise to Alaska. Be sure to pack a mix of short and long-sleeved T-shirts and waterproof pants that can convert into shorts, in case you get extra sunny and warm days during your cruise.

Cruise Packing Checklist: Items For the Cabin

what to bring on alaska cruise

What to pack for an Alaska cruise, especially for first-timers, can be a little challenging. Maybe your Alaska cruise is on a small ship adventure cruise like Alaskan Dream Cruises or UnCruise Adventures. Or maybe you prefer a larger cruise ship like Holland America’s Eurodam, or Royal Caribbean’s Radiance of the Seas.

Long days spent touring, abundant daylight and getting your body clock adjusted all lean towards casual. Even though your cruise ship will still have two formal nights, unless you’re on a luxury cruise, typical “formal” isn’t over the top on an Alaska cruise. Whatever Alaska cruise itinerary you choose, I’ve covered all of it in my Alaska packing list. I’ve also included a list of those incidental items that you might otherwise forget. I’ve cruised Alaska up and down the Inside Passage at least a dozen times plus four cross-Gulf voyages.

It’s also water resistant (not waterproof) and a windbreaker. However, some people still love to dress up on formal night. But like I said earlier, it’s less common on Alaska cruises.

For many, an Alaska cruise is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. You don't want to screw it up because you might not get the chance for a do-over. Unfortunately, it's easier than you think to make Alaska cruise mistakes that can ruin a trip or prevent you from experiencing Alaska to the fullest. We're here to help you make the right choices for your Alaska cruise. We've helped thousands of visitors plan cruise vacations through the years and have tried to answer the most frequent questions simply and honestly.

The spray nozzle makes it easy to quickly saturate a larger area and the power of Oxi helps to lift out stains you can get both off and on the ship like mud, grass, wine, soil, and coffee. Also, if you’re as clumsy as me, this can be a godsend for any colorful spills on upholstery or carpet in your stateroom. It works best when applied within 24 hours of the incident, but make sure you don’t use it on fussy fabrics like wool, silk, or leather. Best of all, they are cheap, don’t take up any space, and have a lot of uses. If you are packing, Ziploc bags can help you keep organized. While on your trip, they can keep things like a phone dry in a pinch.

Consider bringing collapsible refillable water bottles, to save space in your backpack. Make sure to bring along some chap stick or lip balm for warm sunny days in Alaska, as well as the windy ones. You’ll definitely need it for any hiking tours and excursions, as well as other times.

75 Genius Cruise Hacks and Tips: Get Organized, Save Money, Cruise Better

Cunard also offers one-of-a-kind activities such as a classic masquerade mall and afternoon tea sessions. If the ship docks in a secondary location and you have to travel to the big tourist destinations, I always book excursions through the cruise line. For instance, the day my family and I explored Rome, the ship docked in Civitavecchia, Italy, and we had to take a two-hour bus ride into the city. It's all about yacht-like ambience -- the crew unobtrusively catering to your needs and no need to ever dress up even at dinner, where options include dining outdoors by candlelight.

How safe are cruises for single solo travelers?

If you don’t think you’ll be in your room much, skip an oceanview or balcony stateroom and stay in a cozy inside room. Cruise stateroom bathrooms are small and so are the cabins, so bathroom smells might be more obvious than you’d like. Many cruisers bring Poo-Pourri bathroom spray as part of their cruise essentials packing list. If you’re flying to and from your cruise ship, you’ll want to make sure that you don’t go over your luggage weight allowance. Typically, we buy a few souvenirs or extra t-shirts and your suitcase may weigh more than you think. An electronic travel luggage scale is a useful travel gadget to pack.

Use Free Wifi in cruise ports of call

If you aren’t sure of what cruise you want to take next, as if you can put a deposit on an open date instead so you can cruise shop when you get home. Emma Cruises has an awesome course where she teaches this, and more. While you can put your clothes away on the shelves or in a drawer, you’ll minimize wrinkles on your clothing if you can hang as much as possible. When meeting your cabin steward on after boarding on the first day, make it a point to request several extra hangers. I have searched several times since you've posted this, and don't find anything that comes up for $50. The cheapest I've found is $134 for a 3-day BAJA from California.

Some trips have kayaks and stand-up paddleboards available for use. All onshore activities are optional and are an additional cost that is paid on board. Intrepid adventures are for travelers with a yearning to get off the beaten track. Whether you're traveling solo, with a group of friends, or are aged 18 or 70, there is an Intrepid adventure to suit your interests and comfort level. Each Intrepid adventure has a physical and cultural grading to help you decide if the trip is right for you. No special skills are required for most adventures, just a sense of adventure and a curiosity about the world.

I've been on 50 cruises. Here are 5 things I wish I'd known before sailing in the Mediterranean.

This can work well when you can take a taxi to a local beach or in a city where it’s easy to do a Hop On Hop Off bus tour. It’s an age-old question — does the early bird really get the worm, or are there perks to taking a “wait-and-see” approach? If you’re booking a cruise vacation, you’ll find there are benefits to both strategies.

Many ladies avoid overpacking by planning out their outfits for each night of the cruise. If you plan on mixing and matching and re-wearing some items, you can even take a photo with your phone as a reminder. You may want to use some of the equipment or even try out some of the classes.

Use different colored packing cubes for everyone in your travel party. That way, you can share drawers in cabins without mixing everyone’s things together and still keep the room tidy. Because suitcases are delivered to your cabin, I always make two packing lists for every cruise I take. The second—more important—list has everything I need in my embarkation day bag, such as passports, medications, a swimsuit, and sunscreen. While booking as early as possible is usually the best way to save money when booking a cruise, prices can actually come down after you book. To make sure you can take advantage of price drops, monitor the price of your cruise and cabin category.

Taking a cruise is still one of the most affordable vacations you can take, and I have the numbers to prove it. I love Key West in the Florida Keys, but as a port stop, it was hard to see a lot of the island and explore beyond Duval Street. Every once in a while, I can find a short three-night cruise on Royal Caribbean or Disney that only visits the brand's private islands.

They were always showing not available when I tried to book, but got lucky thurs night about 11 pm est. I already had southwest flights booked for that week and just wasn’t sure which cruise we were going to take so this worked out great. After not getting it for a couple of days I went to the casino web site and requested confirmation of the booking and offer terns and got confirmation from them. The booking does show on Carnival's manage cruise page, but after the booking hassle and not getting the email confirmation I had no faith that they actually used the correct rate code. A couple of weeks ago we wanted to take advantage of one of the casino offers we had.

However cruise lines have made great strides, and it’s significantly better now than only a few years ago. There is usually no better view than from the jogging and walking tracks. They’re usually located at the top of the cruise ship and you can see the sea in every direction. Perhaps start the morning off with a 30 minute walk or head to the track later in the day. If you don’t want to pay extra for name brand ice cream, go to the main dining room, even for lunch, and ask for the ice cream of the day.

Before booking a cheap cruise, check to see whether the cruise fare you’re booking is for a guarantee cabin or if you can pick your own cabin location. These cruises on Oasis-class Allure of the Seas are 7-night sailings out of Galveston. All of these are repositioning cruises as well, which get the ships ready for the busy Alaska cruise season. Each sailing below begins in Los Angeles or San Francisco and ends in Vancouver, Canada.

Just to see if it would work I started from scratch and picked that slightly less desirable offer from my list of offers. Again, after entering number of guests etc. it ended up sending me to that list of our offers for that sailing. But this time the offer I had been after from the beginning was listed and I was able to book it. Good way to fill cabins last minute since once the ship sails, the revenue is gone. They sail out fast for the interiors so check the other categories for availability. However it’s doing this for all sailings with a price of $50 and does so even if I check back hours later.

I found 4 sailings for less than $50 per day, including a 10-night one-way sailing from Miami, FL to Bayonne, NJ. Mediterranean cruises start and end in various ports of call around Europe, typically throughout the summer sailing season. Each voyage includes a champagne Welcome Reception for single travelers to mingle and connect with fellow guests. Gentleman Hosts are also often available to accompany solo travelers as a dance partner or dinner companion.

There were quite a few affordable cruises that sailed from foreign ports for less than $50 per day, but my focus here was on U.S. sailings. Once you reach the shore, excursions are included with the cruise fare. Join a guided tour to uncover the landmarks and highlights of historic capitals, enjoy a culinary tasting of local cuisine, or hop on a bike for a guided tour along the river. Slowly sail down the serene river, admiring the surrounding landscape and beautiful backdrop. River cruises are especially optimal for single travelers that would like a scenic and relaxing experience.

The amount of time you spend ashore at each stop will vary depending on the stop and each individual itinerary. It is not always possible to give accurate arrival and departure times from each port. Traveling on a small ship means we are more affected by changes to the winds and tides. If conditions are in our favor we may make excellent time and arrive in port earlier than expected. But if conditions are against us, it may take longer to reach our next stop. One of the charms of small ship cruising is letting nature be part of your journey.

Do I Need a Passport to Go on a Cruise? Full Guide

passport needed for cruise

You might be wondering what, exactly, cruise documents are, which ones you need and how you obtain them. While the answer is no in many cases, it's a good idea to bring it along, just in case. Our partners cannot pay us to guarantee favorable reviews of their products or services.

Denied Entry at Foreign Ports

Immigration and border authorities must be very strict about checking documents for validity, so a photocopy will never be sufficient, even if it is just for a child or senior in your care. If you have changed your name for whatever reason, you must also bring proof of name change. Also, remember that children (even infants) will need a birth certificate to leave and enter the United States, but kids under 16 do not need to show a second form of identification. If you are unsure if your cruise is domestic, consult the cruise line, as they can quickly tell you what type of cruise it is and your specific I.D. While it may sound a bit frustrating, the answer is it will depend on several factors. For starters, you need to determine if your cruise is departing from and returning to your home country.

What documents do you need for a cruise? From passports to printouts, here's what to take

Even though Alaska is part of the U.S., the answer can depend on the embarkation and disembarkation points, where the ship sails and your age. In general, it is preferable to have a passport with you — especially in the event you need emergency medical care and have to stay in a foreign country, for example. If you board in Miami, make a few ports of call, sail through the Panama Canal and end in San Diego, you’ll need to bring your passport.

A Passport Can Make the Situation Easier in an Emergency

In these cases, government-issued identification and proof of U.S. citizenship are acceptable alternatives to a passport book. MSC Cruises provides a relatively straightforward breakdown of travel documents and visa requirements for travelers of all nationalities. If you are a U.S. citizen and cruising out of the United States (meaning your cruise begins and ends in the United States), then you do not need a passport. In general, it is a good idea to have a passport when going on a cruise, even if it is not technically required. Having a passport can make it much easier to travel, especially if there are any unexpected changes to your itinerary or if you need to fly back to the U.S. from a foreign port.

We believe everyone should be able to make financial decisions with confidence. Here’s some useful information to consider before you depart from popular ports like Miami, Boston, New York, New Orleans, Los Angeles or Seattle. Medications that are legally prescribed in the United States are not always legal abroad. Check with the destination country’s embassy or consulate about local laws regarding your prescribed medicines. Check our travelers page to learn more about specific issues you might face abroad. Carnival Cruise Line, often hailed as “America’s Cruise Line,” is a leading figure in the world of cruising. Established in 1972, it has since evolved into the most favored cruise line globally. The company boasts a fleet of 26 ships, each offering unforgettable vacation experiences. So, while a passport may not always be necessary for a cruise, it’s a good idea to carry one for maximum flexibility. Whether you need a passport for a cruise can be both yes and no—it largely depends on the specifics of your cruise. Yes, you may not technically need a passport for a closed-loop cruise, but it is highly recommended to have one for ease of travel.

How to Get a Passport: A Step-by-Step Guide

The tags are prefilled with information like your name and cabin number, so the ship's crew knows where to deliver your belongings after suitcases are loaded onto the vessel by the porters. In a pinch, the check-in desk can look up your reservation in the system when you arrive, but it will add to the time you spend in the terminal before boarding your ship and beginning your vacation. Pack all necessary travel documents in your carry-on luggage so you have them on hand when needed. You should also ensure that the name you used when booking your cruise is the same as the one on your passport. If you have recently changed your name, there are certain steps you will need to take.

Therefore, even if a cruise doesn’t require a passport, it’s advisable to have one to avoid these potential issues. Cruise line policies vary, but generally, children (under 18 years old) must be accompanied by an approved adult (21 years or older) within the same travel group. To verify age requirements and rules for minors, check the age policies of the cruise line you are traveling with. Taking a cruise abroad is an unforgettable experience and an amazing way to see the world.

U.S. Passport Cards

Pink-sand beaches, beautiful blue waters and colorful coral reefs deliver the perfect recipe for sunning, swimming, sailing and snorkeling. For closed-loop cruises (those starting and ending at the same U.S. port), U.S. citizens can enter the U.S. with a birth certificate and government-issued photo ID. However, a passport may still be needed to enter the countries visited during the cruise.

Please check with your specific cruise line to confirm travel documents and age requirements for infants and children. If you find yourself without a passport but in need of one, you would need to contact and locate the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate and request an emergency limited validity passport in order to fly home. The process requires explaining your urgent situation, completing an application, and showing your travel documents, photo identification and proof of citizenship. Be aware that requirements on closed-loop cruises can still change in certain countries, so be sure to check the entry requirements of the specific cruise ports on your itinerary.

The anticipation of a cruise vacation can often overshadow the more mundane aspects of preparation. At a time when eco-friendliness is top of mind and nearly every traveler has a mobile phone, it's easy to rely on apps to keep everything in one spot and avoid wasting paper. However, what would happen if your phone was lost, stolen or broken during your travels? For that reason, I always advise printing hard copies of anything you might need in a pinch, using as little paper as possible. Gear up for a successful and stress-free embarkation day, and make sure you have all the necessary items on hand and ready to go with this guide. Links to external websites are provided as a convenience and should not be construed as an endorsement by the U.S.

Children’s passports are issued for 5 years, adult passports for 10 years. Traditional expedited service can take up to 3 weeks—not including mailing times. To skip potential postal service delays, you could make an appointment with a local passport application acceptance center; however, this option may not get you a passport in 3 weeks. Please note that these requirements can change, so it’s always a good idea to check the latest information on the Norwegian Cruise Line’s website before your trip.

Even if you're on a closed-loop sailing, certain islands in the Caribbean – Guadeloupe, Martinique, St. Barts, Barbados and others -- require a passport for entry. It's your responsibility (not your cruise line's) to learn the requirements of each of the destinations you're visiting before you go. These documents will permit you to receive a temporary passport to be used for reentry into the United States. Temporary passports are only valid for a short period of time and are given out to travelers who need to travel quickly but don't have time to wait for a standard passport.

Before relying on these alternatives, ensure thorough research and verification with your cruise line and the countries you intend to visit. ”, while alternative documents can sometimes be used in place of a passport, especially for closed-loop cruises, their scope is limited. Issued by some U.S. states, EDLs are designed for U.S. citizens to re-enter the country by land or sea from Canada, Mexico, and some Caribbean countries. In the realm of travel, few documents are as universally accepted as a passport. However, under certain circumstances, especially with specific cruise types, alternative documents may be permissible. A passport is a government-issued document that certifies a person’s identity and nationality.

One-way sailings from one U.S. port to another or from a U.S. port to a foreign one would require a passport. If you've purchased travel insurance for your cruise, you should print out and carry the policy card listing your policy number and the phone number of the insurance company. If your trip is interrupted or canceled, or you experience a medical emergency, you'll have the key information handy so you can get help immediately. For years, cruise lines have required passengers to fill out health forms before boarding in an effort to prevent the spread of norovirus on board. Following the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown, lines have expanded health screenings to include questions about coronavirus symptoms.

Disney Cruise Line, a branch of The Walt Disney Company, has been providing unique oceanic journeys since 1996. It boasts a fleet of 6 luxury liners, each offering state-of-the-art amenities, exceptional service, and exclusive Disney activities. Aboard their ships, guests are treated to a diverse array of dining options, both complementary and specialty. Entertainment includes a variety of live music and comedy to Broadway-style shows.
